How to chose the right surgery for me?

By: Our Team

The idea of plastic surgery, injectables such as Botox® and filler, and aesthetic treatments have carried a stigma to some people. While many people are open to the idea of various treatments, many are still apprehensive of, or question the need for, and even the safety of these treatments and surgeries. Many are quick to ask "why would I CHOOSE to have surgery?" or "why fix something if it isn't broken?". With more and more celebrities and influencers taking to social media to share with the world their aesthetic choices, it has brought much more attentions to treatments such as the vampire facial, lip fillers, and even the Brazilian butt lift. These choices are opening the world of plastic and cosmetic surgery to many people who may have never considered it before, or just did not understand what is was all about. Choosing to undergo a procedure or treatment does not mean anything is wrong with you, and it does not have to be something you share with the rest of the world! It is about making you feel better about yourself and making you the best version of yourself you can be.

All of these choices and popular social media procedures can quickly leave you wondering where to start, and how to choose. With some many "lunchtime" procedures and Med Spas popping up on every corner, in shopping malls, and even some now with mobile spas and at pop up events, it is easy to become overwhelmed about where to start and where to go. While it is easy to choose a treatment based on something you saw on social media, it is important to ask yourself WHAT exactly am I hoping to achieve, and am I willing to keep up with any possible needed maintenance or follow up treatments? There is an old saying that your parents probably drilled into your head, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." Unfortunately, we must admit they were right on this one! It is important to do your due diligence and research not only the procedure or treatment, but also the provider, and the clinic themselves!

Here at Snyder Plastic Surgery at the Breast and Body Center of Austin, owner and founder, Dr. Ned Snyder IV, has a saying he always tells patients; most people spend more time researching their washer and dryer than they do choosing their plastic surgeon. While it may be funny, it's very true! We meet so many patients who have spent hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars on treatments and procedure that were promised to solve all their problems, only to often leave them in worse shape than before, unhappy, and feeling embarrassed for trusting a medical providers advice without doing more research. All too often, various unlicensed Med Spas and medical providers are performing procedures for patients that they are not properly trained in, often resulting in adverse results, and something further injury or even death.
