Unwanted facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes. Fortunately, Snyder Plastic Surgery can treat your lost facial volume with Sculptra injections.
Understanding Sculptra®
The Sculptra injectable can last up to 2 years and gradually increase skin thickness, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas. Many people call this type of injectable a “liquid facelift,” as it is an enduring filler approved by the Food and Drug Administration for restoring volume and easing the signs of facial fat loss. Sculptra® is a facial filler composed of poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic, biocompatible substance that does not harm the body.

- Desiring to improve the appearance of deep wrinkles and folds

- Looking for gradual, natural-looking results over time
The Science Behind Sculptra®
Sculptra is an injectable dermal filler made from poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic material that has been used in medical applications for decades. Unlike traditional fillers that provide immediate volume, Sculptra works gradually by stimulating the body’s own collagen production. As new collagen forms, it helps smooth out wrinkles and folds, resulting in a more youthful and natural appearance lasting up to two years or more.

Sculptra® Step-by-Step
Before
Before undergoing Sculptra treatment, Dr. Snyder will evaluate your facial anatomy and determine the appropriate treatment plan tailored to your needs. He will also provide you with detailed pre-treatment instructions to ensure the best possible outcome. Following these guidelines and communicating any concerns or questions you may have before the treatment is important.
During
During a Sculptra treatment session, the injection sites are marked, and the filler is injected directly into the problematic areas. The product is delivered through a fine needle, and multiple layers are injected gradually until the desired contour has been achieved. The treatment can be made comfortable as a numbing cream is usually applied first to reduce any discomfort from the needle. A Sculptra treatment session lasts around 30 minutes, depending on the number of areas treated and the extent of the cosmetic issues. On average, 2 – 3 injections spaced a few weeks apart are recommended for optimal results.
After
After treatment, Sculptra does not require any downtime for patients; they will be slightly red and swollen where the injections occurred, but this goes away within a few hours. Patients can resume their normal routine right after treatment but should refrain from any strenuous activities for the first 24 hours. It is advised not to apply any pressure to the face and to sleep upright the first evening following treatment. The results are evident immediately after treatment, but the optimal results could take several weeks to become visible.
