- Profile: The selection of implants is based on how enhanced the breasts’ projection will be and how wide the implant will be on the chest wall in relation to the base width. Dr. Snyder can help guide the patient accordingly.
- Shape: Each shape serves a different aesthetic function—rounded implants create curvature along the top of the breast, while teardrop implants are shaped to copy the breast’s natural appearance so they will not appear as high.
- Texture: Textured implants were initially conceived to reduce the chances of capsular contracture (the constricting of scar tissue around the implant). Teardrop shapes tend to be made of textured material that helps the implant better adhere to the breast tissue.
- Implant Placement: Implants are either placed above or below the chest muscle. In many cases, patients will be encouraged to place their implants below the muscle to create a more natural outcome and provide added support to stabilize the implant.

patient reviewsIncision Type
There are three valuable and efficient incision approaches for breast augmentation:
- The inframammary incision is created near the breast fold.
- The periareolar incision is made under the areola.
- The transaxillary approach is to be placed within the armpit.
There is also an incision approach around the belly button, but this is the least recommended method. However, the final decision on the incision type is always based on your preferences and Dr. Snyder’s professional recommendation for the best approach.

Breast Augmentation Step-by-Step
Before
Breast augmentation begins with a comprehensive consultation, during which patients discuss their aesthetic goals, medical history, and any concerns they may have. Dr. Snyder conducts a thorough examination to assess breast anatomy, skin elasticity, and overall health, helping to determine the most suitable approach for achieving the desired results.
During
Performed under general anesthesia, the chosen incision technique, whether inframammary, periareolar, or transaxillary, is meticulously executed to minimize visible scarring. Depending on the patient’s anatomy and implant placement preferences, the surgeon then creates a pocket either beneath the breast tissue or the chest muscle. Silicone or saline implants are then inserted to achieve symmetry, proper positioning, and natural-looking results.
After
As swelling gradually subsides and the breasts settle into their new shape, patients begin to appreciate the enhanced volume and contours. With proper care and patience, the final results of breast augmentation become increasingly apparent, boosting confidence and self-image. It takes approximately six months for the breasts to fully heal. Standard recovery usually requires the following:
- All activities must be limited to 48 hours after surgery.
- Light activity is usually tolerated after 5 – 7 days of rest following the surgery.
- Most patients can return to work or school full-time after one week.
- Most patients can resume normal activities within seven days.
- Exercise should be avoided for 4 – 6 weeks.
- Light, low-impact exercise is usually tolerated 2-3 weeks after surgery.
