The Science Behind Restylane®
Restylane is the first and only cosmetic dermal filler made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid naturally exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is a crystal-clear gel called NASHA, or Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid; NASHA is biodegradable and completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid.
Restylane® Step-by-Step
Before
Before injections, patients will discuss their desires and formulate an optimal treatment plan with the Snyder Plastic Surgery team. A member of our aesthetics team will clean the face thoroughly, and Dr. Snyder will mark the injection areas with ink.
During
A fine needle gradually delivers the solution into the skin to reshape and gain youthful contours. The procedure may produce slight discomfort with the injection pinch, which can be helped with a numbing cream applied prior to treatment. The quantity injected depends on the volume the injection site needs. If the cheek appears to sag, it is filled in until it creates a lifted appearance that is reminiscent of youth. The duration of treatment may last up to 30 minutes.
After
The results following a Restylane treatment are immediate. Swelling and redness may occur around the treated areas, which will subside after several hours. Patients may resume work immediately but must avoid strenuous activities for about 24 hours. They are also advised not to put any pressure on the face and keep the head elevated so that the filler settles well to achieve the intended contours. Results may last up to a full year. This procedure is safe to repeat to maintain the desired results. For most patients, this is about every 6 months.
